About the role

Basis builds real agents that do real work in the real economy. Our agents operate for hours at a time, performing end-to-end work for some of the largest accounting firms in the world. We recently raised $100M at >$1B valuation and are racing to deploy the most advanced applied ML at production scale. The Work

• Face changing problems such as ensuring users feel comfortable with nondeterministic systems, managing agent state over long horizons, and designing tools for agents at various levels of abstraction.
• Work across multiple areas including Product Engineering, Agent Engineering, Agent Platform, Platform & Infrastructure, and Agent Data.
• Engage in projects like Atlas, which builds the context layer, internal agents, and knowledge systems for Basis.

Our Beliefs About the Future of Technical Work

• As agents become more capable, the builder stack is collapsing, and the lines between ML work and engineering are blurring.
• Approximately 20% of product engineering at Basis is currently teaching agents to handle non-deterministic workflows, but this is expected to increase to 70% by the end of the year.
• Engineering is evolving towards decision-making and system design rather than coding.
