Melt Operator (6a-2:15p)

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

• Tap furnaces as directed by the supervisor
• Set up and operate the furnace for melting
• Able to load and unload the materials
• Clean furnace and equipment
• Count, weigh and record number of units of materials moved on daily production sheet
• Remove samples of materials, label them with identifying information and take samples for laboratory analysis
• Operate industrial truck or electrical hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and product
• Skim sows and ingots, paying great attention to detail to ensure products meet or exceed quality standards
• Responsible for stacking, banding and prepping of product for shipping
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair of furnaces
• Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition ensuring strict adherence to 5S standards
• Accurately and timely complete all necessary paperwork, such as, attendance reporting, corrective actions, preventative maintenance work orders, etc
• Comply with established QMS procedures
• Follow the requirements of the Quality Policy, ISO/TS system, and procedures and participate in the Continuous Quality process
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment and report any unsafe conditions in a timely manner
• Must follow all safety rules and policies as set forth by OSHA guidelines and Orion Castings including wearing the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Perform other associated duties, functions or work as may be needed or assigned to continue the productive operation of the company

Physical Demands

• Must be capable of lifting 50lbs, reach and lift moderately heavy parts – up to several hundred repetitions per shift
• Ability to stand on one’s feet, bend, and / or twist a minimum of 8 hours per day
• Must be able to ascend / descend stairs
• Must be able to sit, walk, climb, stoop and kneel

Qualifications

• High School/GED/ or equivalent
• Knowledge of molds and casting process theory
• Skills: Mechanical Ability, Basic math skills, Interpersonal skills, Communication skills, Problem solving ability
• Key Position Competencies: Communications, Cognition, Personal Effectiveness, Interaction with Others
