MEI Senior Inspector Field / Permits

Responsibilities

  • Document all activities on site during duration of the contract and prepare inspection reports.
  • Oversee, document, review, and assess contractor’s compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Review construction documents and drawings to minimize issues and to reduce the potential for extra work orders during construction.
  • Take accurate and detailed measurements of all work performed by the contractor to ensure accurate payments.
  • Assist the Project Administrator with the review of contract submissions (critical path schedules, RFI’s etc.)
  • Assist the Project Administrator with staff scheduling/coordination.
  • Attend progress meetings and provide feedback on ongoing construction and issues.
  • Supervise Junior inspectors.
  • Inspect and test soils, concrete, steel, and masonry materials for road and bridge projects.
  • Read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Observe general job safety practices.
  • Monitor and inspect the Work Zone Traffic Control in accordance with contract documents.

The ability to work as a team is a plus. Possibility of weekend and evening work as dictated by contract.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Senior Inspector on Florida Department of Transportation projects in the Tampa, FL area.
  • High school graduate or equivalent plus five years’ experience in construction inspection, one year of which shall have been in bridge and/or roadway construction inspection, or an Engineer Intern with a Civil Engineering degree (requires certificate) having the ability to earn the required qualifications and certifications within one year.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the following certifications:
    • CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level I
    • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
    • CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I
    • CTQP Pile Driving Inspection
    • CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection (required for inspection of all drilled shafts including miscellaneous structures such as sign structures, lighting structures, and traffic signal structures)
    • IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level I
    • CTQP Final Estimates Level I
    • Contract Administration (required for managing FDOT contracts)
    • Contract Inspection
    • Permit Inspection
    • Roadway Characteristics Inventory
    • Maintenance Management System
  • Experience with FDOT construction and specifications desired.
