MEI Inspector

Role Responsibilities
- Junior Inspector: Assist with basic maintenance inspection tasks under close supervision. Perform measurements, observations, and basic field tests. Learn and apply VADOT procedures and safety standards. Document field activities using prescribed formats and systems. Support more experienced inspectors in their daily duties.
- Mid-Level Inspector: Perform more complex field inspections independently. Check engineering computations and conduct field tests. Ensure maintenance contractor compliance with specifications and safety regulations. Exercise independent judgment on standard field decisions. Coordinate with other team members and contribute to project documentation.
- Senior Inspector: Lead and manage field inspection teams, including oversight of junior staff. Perform and document highly technical inspections. Resolve field issues and recommend corrective actions. Serve as liaison with clients, contractors, and Project Administrators. Ensure full compliance with VADOT standards and project specifications. Train and mentor less experienced inspectors.
Qualifications
- Junior Inspectors: High school diploma/GED required, Associate's preferred. One year of CEI/MEI experience (or relevant training).
- Mid-Level Inspectors: High school diploma/GED required, Associate's preferred. One to three years of CEI/MEI experience.
- Senior Inspectors: High school diploma/GED required, Associate's preferred. Four+ years CEI/MEI experience and supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Demands
This position requires minimal lifting of up to 50 pounds, sometimes on a frequent basis. The employee must be able to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperatures. The employee must be able to visually examine construction materials and finished structures and work in various types of weather and field conditions, including heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, hazards of highway construction sites and heavy equipment.
Pay
$20 - $50 per hour
