Senior Field Inspector
Brief Description
LJB Engineering Company, a national engineering consulting firm, is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Senior Field Inspector role for the Washington, DC area for a project starting around September 2026. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years' experience working on major construction projects, in construction or construction management inspection roles and will have interpersonal skills to make a positive impact on our firm and the clients we serve. We are looking for a motivated professional with a forward-thinking mindset, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and a collaborative spirit.
Essential Functions
- Chair and attend progress meetings, develop meeting minutes and submittals reviews, and prepare weekly and daily inspection reports.
- Coordinate team efforts as a leader of our construction management inspection team.
- Manage and carry out the following tasks:
- Perform construction inspection assignments or site visits of geotechnical investigations, microtunneling, and tunnel construction/rehabilitation work and attend progress meetings.
- Prepare daily inspection reports sufficiently detailed and maintained, including all relevant photographs, and upload to Project Online.
- Oversee the completion of geotechnical investigations in both soil and rock geology.
- Perform rock mapping of tunnel and slope condition and geology as needed.
- Assist and coordinate all required materials testing under the Consultant's scope, including review of all materials testing to ensure conformance to the Contract Documents.
- Coverage with all utilities, approval agencies, etc.
- Aid in maintaining, updating, and reviewing tracking sheets/logs, RFIs, RFQs, CCOs, submittals, working days, other issues, etc., and ensuring that relevant documents are provided and dealt with in a timely manner.
- Aid in maintaining an up-to-date deficiency log and ensuring all deficiencies are dealt with in a timely manner.
- Provide feedback on construction schedule submissions including narrative reports and two-week look ahead schedules provided by the Contractor.
- Ensure that the Contractor is adhering to all requirements of the Contract and enforcing such requirements.
- Track red-line drawings with Contractor and ensure adequacy of such information being captured.
- Attend and chair meetings when necessary, including progress meetings, risk workshops and scheduling workshops and any other required meetings with utility companies, approval agencies, the client etc. as may be required throughout the course of construction.
- Coverage and follow-up with all engineering disciplines to review shop drawings, RFIs, and other relevant construction documentation as required.
- Maintain and raise concerns noted by our inspection team if those health and safety protocols are not being adhered to including unsafe work practices, including submission of incident reports.
- Ability to communicate technical and non-technical information in a concise, professional manner, including facilitation of technical meetings and workshops with owners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Technical Writing – must have proficiency in technical writing including letters and daily reports.
- Field based assignments will include shift work, weekday, night, and weekend work.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- Experience working on tunnel and trenchless projects in Canada and the US
- Excellent problem solving, decision making and teamwork skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients
- Ability to work independently, exercise independent judgment, interact with other staff, collaborate with other disciplines
Pay
$90,000 – 130,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.
Schedule
Field based assignments will include shift work, weekday, night, and weekend work.
