About the Role

The Medicine Tech/Resident Care Associate in Assisted Living performs various resident care activities and related nonprofessional services essential to caring for personal needs and comfort of residents. This role administers medications as prescribed by the physician, documents the administration, medication effectiveness, and any noted adverse reactions or side effects under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Responsibilities

• Assist with personal care, including but not limited to: bathing, dressing, grooming, shaving, incontinent care, foot care, vital signs, height and weight checks per policy.
• Make beds as needed in A.M., turn down as needed in P.M., strip beds once each week or as needed.
• Handle all personal laundry on resident’s first scheduled shower day and all linens per shift.
• Assist residents with meal-time, cut food, encourage eating, and feed when needed.
• Utilize all aspects of special programs offered in the Heartfelt Connections Program on an ongoing basis.
• Maintain a calm atmosphere and keep kitchen, work-station, laundry room, bathroom, and common areas neat and clean.
• Follow through with all assignments on a timely basis in accordance with the chain of command.
• Report unusual resident behavior, changes in status, or refusal of medications to the Director of Health Services and/or LPN-LVN-Care Partner.
• Provide activities as planned and/or directed.
• Document resident status as per policy and respond to all call lights and emergencies in a timely manner.
• Provide emergency care within scope of practice.
• Support creating a culture where business decisions drive top-line revenue and occupancy.
• Safely prepare, administer, and chart oral, topical, and suppository drugs.
• Check and prepare each dose immediately preceding administration.
• Follow administration protocol, record administration, discard refused medication, and report errors or reactions immediately.
• Perform accurate pulse and blood pressure checks and recognize their significance in drug therapy.
• Administer PRN medication only under specific directives and sign for access to the controlled schedule drug cabinet.
• Administer medication only upon a written physician’s order.

Requirements

• Prior geriatric experience is preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
• Ability to document care given.
• Generate a warm, friendly, and caring manner on first impression.
• Pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; may be exposed to blood and body fluids which may contain HIV and/or HBV.
• Must be able to transport residents via wheelchair, geri-chair, or shower chair, pushing up to 150 lbs. unassisted.
• Must be able to transfer, lift, turn, and position a resident weighing up to 125 lbs. unassisted, or with assistance for residents over 125 lbs.
• Must be able to stoop, bend, stretch, squat, stand, and walk for up to 90% of the workday.
• May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior.
• Must be able to reach up to a level of six feet.
• Must be able to push a dietary cart up to 40 lbs unassisted.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally.

Pay

Starting at $18.00 per hour plus shift differential.
