About the role
Assist in the administration of medications to residents following facility policies and procedures. Identify and report medication errors, develop programs to prevent them, and participate in quality assurance initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Note and report errors in the administration of medications
- Develop and implement procedures to identify and prevent medication errors
- Complete and submit necessary forms and reports
- Maintain a positive relationship with other department members and staff
- Report complaints and grievances to the Director of Nursing Services
- Participate in facility surveys and Quality Assurance programs
- Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document medications
- Verify medications brought in by new residents
- Follow facility policies and procedures for disposing of medications
- Document and remove discontinued medications
- Notify the Director of Nursing Services of drug receipt errors
- Ensure proper labeling and documentation of medications
- Observe and verify medication administration
- Measure and record vital signs
- Allow residents to self-administer medications if permitted
- Understand and use medical abbreviations and terms
- Attend continuing education programs
- Not disclose resident's protected health information
- Perform assigned tasks according to policies and procedures
- Cooperate with inter-departmental personnel
- Maintain confidentiality of resident care information
- Report unauthorized attempts to access facility systems
- Supervise other Medication Aides as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Licensed Medication Aide with successful completion of a state-approved training program and necessary examinations
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business materials
- Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to solve practical problems and respond to inquiries
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations
- Reasoning ability to interpret instructions and standardize procedures
- Physical ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds, sit, stand, walk, talk, read, hear, and use office equipment
- Knowledge of medical abbreviations and terms relevant to medication administration
