Duties
- Daily check of the medication ordering, and refilling process, pharmacy issues, and observation of medication pass.
- Supervise medication pass including auditing for accuracy in pouring medication into individual medication cups.
- Ensure consistency between the physician prescriptions, blister packs and medications poured for each resident.
- Ensure timely and accurate medication orders and medication renewals.
- Review medication refill log to compare with medication in storage cabinets.
- Review of “no-refill” orders in the refill log and fax requests of MDs.
- Review of receipt, storage and documentation of medications delivered.
- Maintain medical and medication information on all residents including a resident’s current primary and consulting physicians.
- Maintain medication files in a cabinet stored in the medication room.
- Review all missed medications as communicated and ensure appropriate follow up.
- Forward missed medications trends to Case Management.
- Oversee the management and destruction of controlled and non-controlled substances including safekeeping of controlled substances in double-locked medicine cabinet and medication room.
- Review of controlled Inventory and documentation of listed medications.
- Ensure the proper storage of controlled substances not in use.
- Ensure the proper inventory of non-used controlled substances for destruction.
- Cook up the destruction of controlled substances with staff nurse and DOH.
- Schedule staff and ensure their attendance and compliance with job responsibilities.
Requirements
- Must have a valid RN license.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Post high school course work in medical services; College degree preferred.
- Able to read, write, and communicate clearly in the English language.
- Computer literate with ability to use word processing programs.
- Familiarity with the needs of the infirm and elderly.
- Self-directed with the ability to lead and supervise others.
- Able to compute simple mathematics relating to dosage etc.
- Well organized and capable of setting goals and meeting deadlines.
- Serve as a role model for a support staff of 6 more individuals.
