Qualifications

  • 2 year / Associate Degree in Medical Technology (Required) OR meet CLIA minimum qualifications for high complexity testing personnel (Required)
  • 4 Year / Bachelor Degree in Medical Technology (Preferred)
  • 0 - 1 year ability to perform in one or more laboratory departments as a clinical laboratory scientist (Preferred)
  • Certification by ASCP, AMT, NCA, AAB, or other agency approved by the hiring department (Required)

Essential Functions

  • Provides assistance to the department in accurate and timely results of tests
  • Produces accurate and timely results according to established procedures
  • Works independently with little or no supervision
  • Uses sound clinical judgment when evaluating laboratory results
  • Documents work performed and recognizes abnormal and critical results
  • Maintains all laboratory equipment properly as evidenced by proper documentation
  • Monitors the quality assurance system, including quality control

  • Maintains and develops professional skills and knowledge
  • Identifies strengths and development needs through self evaluation
  • Participates in educational activities related to knowledge and professional issues
  • Maintains professional records that provide evidence of competency and learning

  • Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines
  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization
  • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs)
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time
  • Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs
  • For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age-specific customer service skills
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate
