Medical Technologist - Per Diem

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Analyze and test specimens, including proficiency testing and manual procedures, and report appropriately according to protocol
  • Maintain and troubleshoot complex equipment
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot complex equipment
  • Utilize complex information systems; collect and interpret data
  • Perform and interpret quality control
  • Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, NYS, TJC, HIPAA standards, infection control and safety guidelines
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities and maintain inter-and intra-departmental work flow by cooperating with others
  • Is flexible in assuming additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Mets NYS Department of Health requirements and is currently licensed as a Clinical Lab Scientist
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (or equivalent) and Registered as a Medical Technologist/Clinical Lab Scientist by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Prior laboratory experience is preferred, but not required
  • Good written and oral communication skills preferred
  • Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes
  • Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred

Physical Requirements

  • May require light lifting and carrying, including boxes, equipment, stooping and kneeling, may be required to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Repetitive use of hands (eg. computer keyboard usage), sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time is often necessary
  • Must be able physically to operate automation used in the job
