About the Role
Memorial Hermann Memorial City seeks a Medical Technologist or MLT to join our team on the Evening shift. This position is responsible for performing and overseeing various laboratory tests and procedures, contributing to our vision of creating healthier communities through high-quality, efficient care.
Qualifications
Education: Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology (foreign education equivalency required) or Laboratory Science, with documentation of clinical laboratory training, or experience in high-complexity testing.
Licenses/Certifications: Medical Lab Technician (ASCP or ASCP-International) or Medical Lab Technician (AMT) certification, or eligibility for certification with requirement to pass within one (1) year of employment.
Responsibilities
- Performs and documents test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, and associated corrective actions according to policy and procedure.
- Manages and performs daily lab operations, including specimen collections, sample processing, result reporting/distribution, personnel direction (as appropriate), and clerical duties to maintain efficient workflow, tailored to the age and needs of the patient population served.
- Interacts with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding specimen orders and result reporting, ensuring sensitivity to customer needs and adherence to laboratory policies.
- Complies with policies, procedures, and standards set by laboratory services, the hospital, and the system, as well as governmental and accrediting agencies (e.g., TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA, CLIA).
- Ensures quality patient care and customer service while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to process improvement.
- Adheres to budgetary specifications, including time management, productivity, and accuracy of practice; oversees inventory checks and supply management.
- Maintains functional knowledge of system computers as required by job assignment.
- Promotes professional growth and development through continuing education, skills competency, and mentorship of less experienced staff.
- Supports system and hospital customer service and quality initiatives; builds effective relationships with colleagues and customers to address and resolve satisfaction issues.
- May participate in the interview process for job applicants.
- Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors by adhering to all Memorial Hermann policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates commitment to compassionate, personalized, and efficient patient and colleague experiences, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
