Responsibilities
- Often leads orientation for all employees and students.
- Affords technical knowledge and ability to manage and resolve issues related to patient orders, results, and collection.
- Independently exercises judgment in determining work priority and often directs work for others.
- Interacts with nursing units and clients to ascertain critical priorities, verify discrepancies and problem solve.
- Prepares biological specimens, arranges and assigns workload by priority.
- Consistently demonstrates attention to detail in following policies related to proper identification and labeling.
- Provides accurate laboratory test results within established turnaround time expectations.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution OR a Bachelor's in chemical or biological science is required.
- Must include at least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either:
- 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses;
- or 24 semester hours of science courses that include:
- 6 semester hours of chemistry;
- 6 semester hours of biology;
- and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
- Experience: 1 year of clinical laboratory experience is required.
