Medical Technologist II
About the role
Performs routine and specialized laboratory tests and other procedures for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems. Evaluates and reports patient results using considerable independent judgment within the scope of established testing methods. Performs quality control procedures and contributes to the maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies. Assists in the development and implementation of new procedures and instrumentation.
May assume responsibility for one or more laboratory projects or functions such as performance improvement, safety, quality control, regulatory, administrative, staff development, and computer systems. Trains new employees and/or students in the theoretical and operational aspects of procedures and serves as a resource for less experienced staff.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests and procedures
- Evaluate and report patient results using independent judgment
- Conduct quality control procedures and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies
- Assist in developing and implementing new procedures and instrumentation
- Assume responsibility for laboratory projects (e.g., performance improvement, safety, quality control, regulatory compliance, staff development)
- Train new employees and students in laboratory procedures
- Serve as a resource for less experienced staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Technology (Required)
- Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (Preferred)
- 2 years of clinical laboratory experience with moderate and high complexity testing (Preferred)
Qualifications
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification (Preferred)
- National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA) certification (Preferred)
