Medical Technologist
Job Summary
Performs a variety of standardized laboratory tests on biological specimens, including advanced and specialized techniques in compliance with all of the regulations of the Laboratory’s accrediting agencies. This position utilizes safe and standard techniques while working as a critical member of the Laboratory team and exhibiting superior customer service.
What You Will Do
- Assists in data collection for statistical surveys or other reports generated by the Department.
- Participates in quality control and performance improvement activities within the Department.
- Maintains high degree of competency in the operation of all equipment in the performance of clinical laboratory testing to include trouble-shooting and minor repair.
- Facilitates communication between the Laboratory and members of the Medical Staff and other Hospital Departments to enhance patient care services.
- Captures specimens as needed utilizing appropriate precautions to promote patient comfort and minimize potential for exposure.
- Processes routine test results to include analysis, calculations, and reporting of results.
- Ensures reliability of results by proper use of quality controls with recalibration and corrective actions taken when needed.
- Maintains adequate inventory of reagents and supplies for assigned area of responsibility.
- Validates new methods, procedures and instruments.
- Performs troubleshooting as required with reporting of major problems with instrumentation for repair.
- Maintains complete documentation of all instruments and problems.
- Utilizes specialized knowledge of clinical laboratory principles in the recording and reporting of testing results.
- Maintains documentation of results of quality controls and patient testing for I-Stat and Bedside Glucose testing.
- Notifies physicians and other members of the health care team of results in a timely manner with reporting of critical values per standard operating procedure.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date (MT-AAB).
- Medical Technologist, or (CLT/CLS) Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist, or (MLS) Medical Laboratory Scientist.
