Medical Technologist
Job Overview
Absorbs responsibility for performing routine and complex biological and biochemical tests on blood, urine, tissues, body fluids, and other specimens to assist physicians in diagnosing and managing patient care.
Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree in medical technology or sciences
- Knowledge of specialized principles or techniques, typically acquired through a formal four-year college/university academic program
- Registry with a recognized board of registry for medical technology, such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, preferred
- Successful completion of all Orientation Programs
Essential Functions
- Well-lit, sometimes poorly ventilated, and intermittently noisy environment
- Stressful pressure episodes
- Sometimes exposed to stains, infectious biological materials, caustic, toxic, and noxious agents
- Occasionally exposed to electrical shock and laceration
- Moderate amounts of sitting, standing, or walking required
- Occasionally lifts moderately heavy objects weighing up to 20 pounds
