Position Summary
Responsible for daily specimen processing in the designated laboratory, including technical and non-technical duties. Communicates with staff physicians and other staff employees regarding patient’s specimen. Works with management personnel to ensure efficient and technically correct systems and procedures in the laboratory.
Key Performance Areas
- Prepare and process specimens for testing using CAP acceptable methods and standards.
- Reviews the daily technical systems for assurance of quality and efficiency.
- Performs tests according to approved policies and procedures for all phases of testing; pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic, as well as general laboratory specimens.
- Affirms instruments and reagents are within quality parameters.
- Participates in laboratory research and development projects as needed and as time permits.
- Responsible for inventory and ordering of supplies.
- Exercises all precautions when handling hazardous chemicals that are irritating to mucous membranes and the skin.
- Assists with revising laboratory documents including policies, procedures, and forms.
Position Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in biology, Chemistry, molecular or related field and/or successful completion of a medical technology or related field training program.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of related experience in the designated laboratory specialty is preferred.
- Licenses: State of Hawaii laboratory license in the designated area is required, and an MT(ASCP) or MT(AMT) license is preferred.
- Skills: Dependable, adaptable in all aspects of laboratory responsibilities and scheduling hours.
