Medical Scribe (0.8 FTE) - Montage Orthopedics and Sports Medicine
About the role
The Medical Scribe is responsible for accurately transcribing medical notes related to patient encounters into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for physician review and approval. This position involves accompanying physicians during patient examinations to document history, physical exams, diagnoses, symptoms, and any treatments or procedures performed. The Medical Scribe also transcribes patient orders, including laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications, ensuring prompt and correct entry into the EMR system.
In addition to transcription duties, the Medical Scribe maintains effective communication with physicians, patients, and other staff while adhering to safety protocols and safeguarding patient confidentiality. This role requires attention to detail, efficiency, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Professional conduct and the ability to carry out other duties as assigned by management are expected.
Responsibilities
- Accurately transcribe medical notes from patient encounters into the EMR system.
- Accompany physicians during patient examinations to document history, physical exams, diagnoses, symptoms, treatments, and procedures.
- Transcribe patient orders, including laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications.
- Maintain effective communication with physicians, patients, and staff.
- Adhere to safety protocols and safeguard patient confidentiality.
- Interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations, including financial reconciliations when needed.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Minimum typing speed of 60 words per minute.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Strong understanding of filing systems, office machines, and equipment.
- Experience with medical terminology, including knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes (preferred).
- Understanding of the medical insurance process (preferred).
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, and excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to handle tasks with flexibility, adjust to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Capability to interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
- Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and financial calculations.
Qualifications
Associate degree in a pre-med, pre-nursing, or a health-related field and 1+ years of office-related or medical scribe experience or training preferred but not required.
Schedule
32 hours a week.
Pay
$23.00 to $27.96 USD per hour, based on years of applicable experience.
