Medical Science Liaison Lead - West

As a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Lead with bioMérieux, you will play an important role in fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders in your designated geographical area. This multifaceted role combines scientific expertise, field medical affairs responsibilities, and team management.

About the role

You will oversee an area team of field-based Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) who support bioMérieux’s Microbiology, Molecular, and Immunoassay portfolios. This role involves engaging with leading experts to develop and maintain peer-to-peer relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and Healthcare Providers (HCPs) in infectious diseases and diagnostics. You will provide scientific and clinical expertise on diagnostic products to stakeholders, lead and mentor a regional MSL team, and ensure alignment with US and Global Medical Affairs objectives.

Responsibilities

• KOL Engagement & Relationship Building
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative network of relationships with KOLs, HCPs, and key stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop the area MSL team in competencies to build KOL and HCP networks.
  • Report regularly on KOL development progress for the designated geographic area.
  • Cultivate partnerships with thought leaders to support the company’s medical strategy and therapeutic objectives.
  • Engage in ongoing scientific discussions to share relevant data and insights.
• Medical Education & Scientific Presentations
  • Present scientific information on bioMérieux products and therapeutic areas to internal and external audiences.
  • Coordinate team MSL activities across the assigned geographic region in alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Mentor and coach team members in territory management, scientific presentations, and strategic delivery of medical education.
• Insights Gathering & Reporting
  • Collect and analyze insights from the team across the designated geographic region to inform internal strategic direction.
  • Provide detailed feedback to medical affairs leadership on area trends, impactful findings, and evidence gaps.
  • Collaborate with other regional MSL Leads to relay field insights to key internal stakeholders.
  • Coach and mentor the MSL team to effectively gather insights aligned with US and Global medical objectives.
• Scientific Literature Review & Evidence-Based Information
  • Stay up to date with the latest research and scientific publications in relevant disease areas.
  • Review and interpret scientific data to communicate product and disease state information.
  • Coach and develop the team to effectively appraise and interpret scientific literature.
• Regional Conference Engagement
  • Support the strategic plan for team attendance at relevant regional medical and scientific conferences.
  • Utilize conferences to network with KOLs, gather insights, and share bioMérieux’s latest advancements.
• Collaboration with Internal Teams
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., U.S. and Global Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, CSO, Regulatory Affairs) to align on company goals.
  • Actively participate in integrated medical teams and foster communication between teams and the area MSL team.
  • Ensure alignment and execution of priority tactics outlined in integrated medical planning.
• Team Leadership
  • Recruit and onboard new team members within the designated geographic area.
  • Conduct performance assessments and address concerns in partnership with leadership and HR.
  • Collaborate with other leads and training managers to support new hire training.
  • Ensure ongoing competency and compliance with field medical affairs activities.
  • Model compliance with bioMérieux’s professional standards and ethical decision-making practices.
• Administrative Responsibilities
  • Complete administrative tasks, including expense reporting, internal training, vendor credentialing, and data entry.
  • Maintain oversight of the area MSL team’s administrative compliance (e.g., expense reports, CRM documentation).
  • Ensure team compliance with regulatory and company-specific guidelines.
• Tools & Technology Proficiency
  • Demonstrate proficiency with CRM, Microsoft Office (Teams, PowerPoint, OneNote, Word, Excel, Outlook), and other relevant tools.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.

Qualifications

• Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, healthcare, or clinical sciences.
  • 6+ years of relevant clinical, laboratory, or healthcare experience with progressive leadership responsibility.
  • Clinical or clinical laboratory experience (e.g., infectious disease, critical care, emergency medicine, pharmacy, or hospital/health-system settings).
  • Ability to lead and develop others and translate clinical/scientific expertise into a field medical environment.
• Preferred
  • Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, NP, PA, MS/MLS/DCLS, MD/DO, or similar).
  • MSL/field medical affairs experience, particularly in HCP/KOL engagement, scientific/medical education, or insights gathering.
  • Clinical microbiology board certification or relevant clinical laboratory credential.
  • Experience in infectious disease diagnostics, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, or immunoassay.

Pay

The estimated salary range for this field-based role is $165,200 to $204,100 per year, with eligibility for a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance. Actual compensation is determined based on experience.
