MEDICAL RECORDS TECHNICIAN

About the role
The Medical Records Technician ensures health information documentation meets company, local, state, and federal standards. This role involves auditing, maintaining, filing, and releasing medical records while adhering to confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Audit medical records for completeness, accuracy, and internal consistency during and after a client’s stay.
- Maintain and preserve records at the assigned location site.
- Coordinate the annual purge of medical records with the Director.
- Monitor daily receipt of discharged records and report backlogs related to closed charts or audits.
- Ensure all records are closed within 30 days of discharge.
- Process requests for release of information (ROI) to authorized persons within 30 days, logging all ROIs sent.
- Respond to subpoenas in a timely and professional manner.
- Uphold HIPAA regulations and client confidentiality across all operations.
- Attend monthly department meetings and comply with Service Excellence standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director.
Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Training or experience in general office duties.
- Two years of prior medical records experience preferred; RHIT certification is a plus.

Schedule
Full time, 40 hours per week.
