Essential Job Functions
- Works as a team with other staff to provide the best patient experience, including but not limited to cordial customer service, teamwork with other work units and collaboration within front and back-office support team.
- Performs scanning functions of paper documents directly into Electronic Health Record.
- Performs any advanced preparation responsibilities required for patient appointment in regards to updated information: patient demographics, patient documents, insurance coverage, specialty reports received and other supporting documents needed for the patient visit.
- Processes Releases of Information requests of medical information following all privacy regulations and NVIH policy and procedure.
- Performs data entry of reports such as lab values, etc into the Electronic Health Record.
- Maintains current and accurate medical records based on industry standards and guidelines and NVIH policy and procedure.
- Affords assistance to incoming callers according to established policies, protocols and guidelines; transfers calls as needed.
- P Practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance with NVIH policy and HIPAA/HITECH requirements.
- Maintain work area in a manner that is organized and represents a professional atmosphere.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent, General Education Diploma (GED).
- One (1) year of clerical office experience required; previous medical records/health information management or healthcare experience desired.
- Proven ability to provide excellent customer service by anticipating customer needs and leaving them feeling satisfied with their experience.
- Ability to sufficiently communicate medical terminology to patients, healthcare providers and insurance company representatives regarding appointments, services and procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written to serve the needs of the clinic patients, clients and visitors.
- Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills, time management skills, and an ability to meet established productivity standards both independently and in a team environment.
- Computer skills that provide the ability to efficiently use the computer systems for scheduling, updating information, and word processing documents, including the electronic health record system.
- Familiarity with HIPAA/HITECH regulations and other privacy laws and regulation to provide confidentiality of all protected information and ability to comply with NVIH Privacy Policy and Procedures.
- Reliable Transportation and ability to adhere to regular attendance.
