Key Responsibilities
- Maintains and updates patient records, including medical histories, treatments, and examinations
- Scans paper documents into the database and indexes them accurately into the correct patient charts
- Processes medical record requests for authorized personnel, insurance providers, and other facilities, ensuring strict HIPAA compliance
- Reviews patient records for deficiencies, resolves data discrepancies, and merges duplicate accounts
- Serves as a liaison between healthcare providers and staff regarding the availability of patient records
- Assembles medical charts and prepares them for the units
- Routinely collects all discharged patient medical records to ensure all records are secured in the Health Information Department
- Answers incoming calls in a timely manner and responds to caller’s needs, returning calls left on voicemail within 24 hours
- Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments of the facility
- Schedules workdays from Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or equivalent
- Preferred Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification
- One (1) year of administrative or health records experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize projects, work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
- Accurate and efficient data entry skills with strong attention to detail
- Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical terminology
- Comfortable navigating Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software
