Responsibilities
- Record Management: Organize and maintain patient records in both electronic and paper formats, ensuring they are up-to-date and complete.
- Data Entry: Accurately input patient information, including demographics, medical histories, treatment details, and test results into electronic health record (HER) systems.
- Record Retrieval: Retrieve medical records for healthcare providers, patients, or authorized personnel as needed.
- Compliance and Privacy: Ensure all records comply with HIPAA and other federal regulations, maintaining confidentiality and security of patient information.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient information at all times.
- Communication: Coordinate with medical staff, insurance companies, and patients to clarify information, obtain additional documentation, or respond to inquiries.
- Monitor and execute requests in work queue that result in processing requests for information.
- Quality Control: Audit records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with institutional policies.
- Support audits by providing requested documentation promptly and accurately.
- Clerical Support: Perform administrative tasks such as answering phones, processing records requests, scanning documents, and other duties as assigned/required by the role.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; certification or degree in health information technology is REQUIRED.
- Experience: Minimum of one year previous experience in a healthcare or medical clinic setting is REQUIRED.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with EHR systems, medical record software, word processing and general computer technology.
- Medical Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terminology, abbreviations, and documentation standards such as DRG, CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10.
- Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and accuracy in data entry and record management.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions. Ability to prioritize and execute a variety of tasks simultaneously.
- Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact with staff, patients, and external agencies.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to investigate discrepancies and resolve issues creatively and efficiently.

Based in Champaign, Illinois, Promise Healthcare is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) dedicated to improving the health of the community through treatment, prevention, and education. Champaign is 2.3 hours from the Chicago O'Hare International Airport with daily train transportation.
