About the role

Assists physicians and nursing staff in the care of patients. Performs various patient care activities, including assisting with patient flow, taking vitals, giving injections, and other needs as required. Maintains nurses' stations, exam and procedure rooms. Performs front desk and clerical duties such as complete demographic and insurance registration, charge entry, scheduling patients, and verifying insurance information. Must be fully certified in patient registration. Utilizes electronic systems as documented in department and/or FPI standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient flow and take vitals
  • Administer injections and provide other patient care as required
  • Maintain nurses' stations, exam, and procedure rooms
  • Perform front desk and clerical duties, including:
    • Complete demographic and insurance registration
    • Charge entry
    • Scheduling patients
    • Verifying insurance information
  • Utilize electronic systems (e.g., GE, EPIC) for billing and documentation
  • Perform venipuncture
  • Adhere to state and faculty guidelines for medical assisting responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Graduation from an accredited medical assistant training program or 2 years of supervised work experience in a medical setting
  • Medical Assistant certification (e.g., NAHP, NCCT, AAMA, NHA, AMT)
  • Demonstrated skill in venipuncture
  • CPR certification
  • General understanding and application of basic accounting principles
  • PC proficiency and accurate data entry skills
  • Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and pre-authorization
  • Knowledge of GE, EPIC, or similar computerized billing systems
  • Medical terminology (preferred)

Pay

The base salary range for this position is between the low and high end of University of Maryland Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range. Exact salary will depend on factors such as geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor, and education/training.
