About the role
The Medical Office Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to the clinic, facilitates communication and correspondence, and contributes to patient care. You will ensure the smooth flow of patients through the clinic for appointments and offer friendly, courteous assistance to every customer to ensure a positive and professional experience.
Responsibilities
- Make health center appointments, including appropriate financial and insurance eligibility screening.
- Assist patients with verbal registration, including appropriate financial and insurance eligibility screening.
- Correctly enter patient information into the Electronic Practice Management system and Electronic Health Record system.
- Protect patients’ rights by adhering to all HIPAA requirements, including maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.
- Perform daily periodic quality assurance activities.
- Demonstrate PPM customer service standards with social perceptiveness and a service-oriented approach.
- Provide patients with the opportunity to give feedback through patient surveys and reviews.
- Greet clients politely and promptly and provide correct information for registration and check-out.
- Offer community referrals and resources to patients.
- Prepare for next-day appointments (confirmation calls, insurance verification).
- Work proficiently with MS Office and patient management software.
- Maintain a cooperative and courteous attitude with excellent phone and communication skills when interacting with employees, patients, and outside agencies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED with six months of experience working in a health care center or one year of experience working in a health care setting performing front office medical assistant duties.
- Two years of customer service experience may be accepted in lieu of healthcare experience.
- EPIC experience is a plus.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
