MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina.

About the role

This position ensures constant and efficient operations of the physician medical office. Duties include creating patient profiles in the computer system, charge entry, and providing administrative coverage at the front desk of the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the clinic appointment line, including scheduling appointments for clients from outside medical, hospital, and correction systems
  • Answer multiline telephones
  • Take payments from clients for clinical services
  • Complete client registration and documentation
  • Schedule interpreters for clients
  • Coordinate and participate in daily clinic preparation, patient identification, check-in/out, charge posting, and cash management
  • Handle patient appointment scheduling
  • Provide customer service and manage message distribution
  • Perform ancillary scheduling and preparation
  • Manage referrals
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency (GED) plus one of the following:
    • One year of patient care experience in a health care facility
    • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
    • Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant course at an accredited institution or equivalent training
    • EMT or Paramedic certification
    • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to interpret and apply financial procedures and regulations preferred
  • Previous experience with hospital information systems or word processing preferred
