Responsibilities
- Oversee litigation files through each phase of the matter, ensuring documents, deadlines, and case activity are accurately maintained from opening to final disposition.
- Partner with attorneys to prepare pleadings, discovery materials, motion packages, and other filings needed to advance medical malpractice defense cases.
- Create, organize, and track written discovery, including assembling responses and supporting documentation for production.
- Examine medical records, deposition testimony, expert information, and related case materials to prepare concise summaries and issue-focused analyses.
- Communicate with clients, healthcare providers, retained experts, and outside parties to gather information and coordinate case-related activities.
- Assemble exhibits, witness materials, binders, and other supporting documents for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial proceedings.
- Maintain litigation calendars and monitor procedural deadlines so attorneys remain informed of upcoming requirements and court dates.
- Perform legal and factual research to support strategy development, motion practice, and case evaluation.
- Prepare medical chronologies, damages summaries, and other case reports that help attorneys assess facts and present defensible positions.
- Aid with document management, electronic discovery tasks, and broader litigation support projects across active matters.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of paralegal experience in litigation, with preference for background in medical malpractice, liability matters requiring close attention to detail, or other complex defense matters.
- Working knowledge of civil litigation processes, court filings, and discovery obligations throughout the life of a case.
- Demonstrated ability to review large volumes of medical documentation and translate key information into clear summaries.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with attorneys, clients, experts, and third parties.
- Excellent organizational skills and close attention to detail while balancing multiple assignments and time-sensitive deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using litigation support, case management, or e-discovery platforms.
Qualifications
- Paralegal certification or related academic training is preferred.
- Prior experience supporting attorneys within a large law firm setting is an advantage.
