Role Overview
This position involves conducting and supporting laboratory testing to aid in disease diagnosis and treatment. The technologist ensures accuracy and proficiency in all testing procedures, follows established policies, and applies professional knowledge of medical technology, including testing methodologies and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and report waived, moderate, and high complexity tests according to SOPs, using computerized data systems.
- Properly collect, label, handle, and process specimens, verifying patient and specimen identities.
- Monitor Quality Control and Quality Management, investigate variances, and ensure supplies are maintained.
- Operate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments, perform maintenance, and identify equipment malfunctions.
- Comply with regulatory standards, participate in competency assessments, and mentor staff or students.
- Respond to customer satisfaction issues, support system and departmental initiatives, and communicate critical results effectively.
- Maintain a safe, clean environment and support safety protocols.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory sciences or related field; relevant certifications such as MT (ASCP) or equivalent are required.
- No prior experience necessary; comparable training or certification can substitute educational requirements.
- Current licensure or certification in medical technology, with eligibility for state licensure if applicable.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and computer skills; commitment to ongoing professional development.
