Medical Laboratory Technologist - Culture Reader

Responsibilities

• Perform culture plate reading and interpretation with an extensive skillset in microbiology.
• Utilize microscopy skills, including gram stain interpretation, acid-fast stain interpretation, and recognition of bacteria, yeast, fungi, and cells.
• Operate automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases.
• Conduct diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples received daily in high volumes.
• Set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Specialize in an assigned department within the laboratory.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; a 2-, 3-, or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
• Experience working in a high-volume sample laboratory.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (e.g., microscopes, pipetting, clinical diagnostic analyzers) is ideal.
• Positive attitude and ability to bring energy to the lab to support colleagues.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Reliable and precise focus on details.
• Strong sense of team spirit and responsibility.
• Ability to meet physical requirements: standing and sitting for extended periods, phone and computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50 lbs, and specific vision abilities (close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus).
• Willingness to work in an environment with potential exposure to biohazards, zoonotic disease agents, and hazardous chemicals.

Pay

Hourly rates targeting $30 per hour (will ultimately be based on skillset).

Schedule

• Full-time position (40 hours per week).
• Flexible schedule options: 4 days/10 hours per day or 5 days/8 hours per day.
• Flexible start and end times for shifts.
• Weekend options available with a set rotation (e.g., every other Saturday, every other Sunday, or every third weekend).
• Schedule may vary slightly depending on business needs.
• Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.

This position is located on-site at our North Grafton, MA lab.
