Medical Laboratory Technician OR Medical Technologist

This role involves handling blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid, and other bodily fluids, which may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood-borne pathogens.

Responsibilities

• 55% Critical Thinking & Analysis:
  • Perform complex analysis of all body fluids and tissues.
  • Determine the reliability of analytic data before releasing patient results for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Interpret information to make judgmental decisions and troubleshoot technical procedures and instruments.
  • Use knowledge of medical correlations, laboratory parameters, physiologic factors, medication effects, and treatments to assess data validity.
  • Evaluate new testing methodologies and practices.
  • Demonstrate safety and infection control practices.
  • Assist in gathering test data for new methods and equipment installation.
• 15% Customer Service:
  • Provide professional and courteous service to clinicians, clients, and patients via telephone and in-person interactions.
  • Communicate effectively with physician office staff, clinical staff, laboratory associates, patients, and families, including service recovery when needed.
• 20% Quality Assurance & Equipment Maintenance:
  • Perform quality control checks on procedures, equipment, reagents, and stains.
  • Document and interpret QC data to validate patient results and verify instrument performance.
  • Maintain and review logs to ensure optimal system performance, preventing costly equipment failures.
• 5% Continuing Education & Competencies:
  • Stay current in the field through ongoing education.
  • Train new employees and students.
  • Maintain competencies and mandatory educational requirements (e.g., ACE).
• 5% Miscellaneous Duties:
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences (Required).
• ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or MLT (Medical Laboratory Technologist) certification.
• Field of study in applied science or medical laboratory technology, including an MLT internship in a laboratory or formal military experience.
• Successful completion of the Board of Registry examination of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent certifying organization.

Schedule

Evening shift, 32 scheduled weekly hours.
