Medical Laboratory Technician, MLT

About the Role

Performs waived and moderately-complex clinical laboratory tests available at Chinese Hospital and Clinic CLIA Laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Performs waived and moderately-complex clinical laboratory tests, particularly in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Urinalysis.
• Monitors, recognizes, and reports quality control and indicator issues to the Technical Operations Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager.
• Records corrective actions and performs calibration and processing validation of instruments as assigned.
• Processes specimens and communicates specimen concerns to Non-Technical and Technical departments.
• Performs preventive maintenance and coordinates with lab assistants to ensure proper operation and maintenance of instruments.
• Reports and releases test results accurately and precisely in a timely manner.
• Assists and updates the Non-Technical Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager with supply needs, reagent inventory, and equipment.
• Maintains a clean bench area and follows general housekeeping policies.
• Performs proficiency testing and competency assessments, maintaining up-to-date training records.
• Maintains required CEUs and attends mandatory training classes, meetings, and seminars.
• Provides excellent customer service and shows compassion to patients, visitors, and co-workers.
• Works with the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and escalates issues involving assay results and test reference or reportable ranges.
• Maintains patient, employee, and company confidentiality.
• Informs the team about new clinical lab technology and test progress.
• Accepts and performs other duties as assigned by the Technical Operations Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a work-related discipline (Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology preferred).
• Current California Medical Laboratory Technician license required.
• Hospital lab experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and listen.
• Uses hands for computer work, equipment set-up/cleaning/storage, and clerical support.
• Frequent phone use and good vision required.
• Able to lift up to 30 pounds and use proper body mechanics.
• Standing, walking, and moving 50% of the day.

Complies with Chinese Hospital Compliance Handbook, including the Code of Ethics and all applicable statutes, regulations, and guidelines. Responsibilities include following guidelines and reporting suspected violations.

Pay

Starting at $40.63 - $60.89 per hour. The salary will be set based on factors including internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
