Medical Laboratory Technician- Microbiology (Full-Time)

The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana, performing more than 19 million tests a year. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country.

As a Medical Laboratory Technician - Serology, you will assist with laboratory testing on patient specimens, helping to provide information for diagnosis and treatment. You will maintain records of performance, generate acceptable test results, and perform tasks according to standard operating procedures. You may also assist with the development and modification of procedures and take on additional responsibilities as outlined by management or the laboratory director.

Responsibilities

• Assist with laboratory testing on patient specimens.
• Provide information for diagnosis and treatment under direction.
• Maintain records of performance and utilize independent judgment to generate acceptable test results.
• Perform all tasks according to standard operating procedures.
• Assist with development and modification of laboratory procedures.
• Assume additional responsibilities as outlined by management or the laboratory director.
• Maintain quality control and other records.
• Follow all laboratory safety regulations and protocols.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related science (certification is not required); OR
• Associate Degree in an approved Medical Laboratory Technician Program; OR
• Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) certification from an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration (dependent on when coursework was completed).

If hired with an Associate degree, certification (NCA, AMT, ASCP, HEW, or CLA) is required within 12 months of employment. Failure to achieve certification may result in a downgrade to Lab Assistant II or loss of employment, dependent on business need.

• Knowledge of various laboratory techniques and procedures.
• Working knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures.
• Working knowledge of computers.
