Job Duties
Under the direction of the Lab Manager, a MLT performs work of waived moderate and high complexity levels, involving all aspects of the clinical lab. The MLT utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural and problem-solving aptitudes for day-to-day Laboratory technical operations, quality control, quality assurance, procedure/instrument maintenance and corrective action, test result correlation, and clinical laboratory related duties.
Under the direction of the Lab Manager, the Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests, procedures, and related duties including waived, moderate and highly complex testing. Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural, and problem-solving aptitudes for day-today laboratory technical operations, quality control, quality assurance, procedure/instrument maintenance and corrective action, test result correlation, and clinical laboratory related continuing education.
Education/Licensure
- Associate’s degree in MLT or laboratory science from an accredited two-year college or technical school required or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in clinical science or satisfactory grade in HHS exam and 6 years working experience as a MLT required.
- MLT-ASCP board certified or NCA certified preferred.
- BLS certified or must be obtained within 1 week of hire.
- Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) and DOT Drug Testing certified or able to obtain within one year from date of hire.
- Department of Transportation Specimen Collection Certificate preferred or able to obtain within one year from date of hire.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license required.
Pay
The pay range for a Medical Laboratory Technician is $28.80 - $44.64 per hour and Medical Laboratory Scientist is $32.36 - $50.16 per hour. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
