About the role

The Medical Lab Tech provides accurate and timely testing and results to requesting physicians and other healthcare professionals for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. The position involves performing laboratory tests, operating and maintaining lab equipment, and assisting with education and training of laboratory personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory tests according to established procedures.
  • Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and validates lab equipment.
  • Documents quality control and follows established quality assurance guidelines.
  • Receives and processes specimens according to established protocols and regulations.
  • Aids in educating and training laboratory personnel according to skill level.
  • Assists in maintaining laboratory supplies and inventory.
  • Affixes to ensuring the laboratory meets accreditation standards from College of American Pathologist (CAP), Joint Commission (TJC), and other accrediting agency standards as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit.
  • Obtains certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other equivalent accrediting agencies within 6 months of graduation.
  • Ability to work rotating weekends as required.
  • Ability to work holidays scheduling as required.
  • Ability to take on-call availability as required and for emergency coverage on any shift.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Clinical/Medical Lab Sciences.
  • Licensure/Certification: Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other equivalent accrediting agencies.
  • Maintain certification through the Board of Certification Credential Maintenance Program (CMP).
  • Previous Medical Lab Technician experience is preferred.
