About the role
The laboratories of Indiana University Health offer comprehensive laboratory services, performing over 19 million tests annually. The Medical Laboratory Technician position supports these operations, assisting with specimen processing and utilizing independent judgment to generate accurate test results.
Responsibilities
- Assists with laboratory testing on patient specimens
- Provides information for the diagnosis and treatment
- Maintains records of performance
- Develops and modifies procedures as needed
- Assists with specimen processing, including proficiency in hematology/oncology differentials
- Runs hematology (Sysmex) and chemistry (Cobas) analyzers
- Works independently with minimal support
- Troubleshoots and performs phlebotomy as necessary
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related science (or equivalent certification)
- Associate degree in an approved Medical Laboratory Technician Program or a Medical Laboratory Specialist certification from an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration
- Certification within 12 months of employment if required by the position
- Knowledge of various laboratory techniques and procedures
- Working knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures
- Able to maintain quality control and other records
- Working knowledge of computers
- Knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols
Qualifications
- Full-time, night shift (9:00PM-7:30AM)
- 8 days on/6 days off rotation
