About the role
The laboratories of Indiana University Health offer comprehensive laboratory services, processing over 19 million tests annually. The Medical Laboratory Technician position supports these operations, assisting with specimen testing under direction.
Responsibilities
- Assists with laboratory testing on patient specimens
- Provides information for the diagnosis and treatment
- Maintains records of performance and generates acceptable test results
- Performs tasks according to standard operating procedures
- Develops and modifies procedures as needed
- Assumes additional responsibilities as directed by management or the laboratory director
- Processes specimens, proficient in hematology/oncology differentials, runs hematology (Sysmex) and chemistry (Cobas) analyzers
- Works independently with minimal support, troubleshoots issues, and performs phlebotomy
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related science (Certification is not required)
- Associate degree in an approved Medical Laboratory Technician Program or a Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) certification from an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration
- Requires knowledge of various laboratory techniques and procedures
- Working knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures
- Ability to maintain quality control and other records
- Working knowledge of computers
- Knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols
Qualifications
- Experience with hematology/oncology differentials
- Proficiency in using Sysmex and Cobas analyzers
- Good troubleshooting skills
- Phlebotomy experience is a plus
