About the role

The laboratories of Indiana University Health offer comprehensive laboratory services, performing over 19 million tests annually. This role is based at White Memorial Hospital in Monticello, Indiana.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with laboratory testing on patient specimens under direction.
  • Provides information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Maintains records of performance and generates acceptable test results independently.
  • Develops and modifies laboratory procedures as needed.
  • Assists with specimen processing, including proficiency in hematology/oncology differentials, running Sysmex and Cobas analyzers, and working as a single tech with minimal support.
  • Trains and supports other lab technicians as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related science (Certification is not required).
  • Associate degree in an approved Medical Laboratory Technician Program or a Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) certification from an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration, depending on when coursework was completed.
  • Certification (NCA, AMT, ASCP, HEW, and CLA) within 12 months of employment, or risk being downgraded to Lab Assistant II position or losing employment if not achieved.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of various laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to maintain quality control and other records.
  • Working knowledge of computers.
  • Knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols.

Skills

  • Proficiency in phlebotomy is a plus.

Pay

Schedule

Full-time, nights, 4-10 hour shifts, alternating weekends and holidays.
