About the role
The laboratories of Indiana University Health offer comprehensive services, performing over 19 million tests annually. Full-time positions are eligible for a sign-on bonus.
Shift
Full-time, evening shift at Jay Hospital (Portland, IN).
Responsibilities
- Assists with laboratory testing on patient specimens under direction.
- Provides information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Maintains records of performance and generates acceptable test results independently.
- Develops and modifies procedures as needed.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as directed by management or the laboratory director.
- Processes specimens, proficient in hematology/oncology differentials, runs hematology (Sysmex) and chemistry (Cobas) analyzers, works as a single tech with minimal support.
- Troubleshoots and performs phlebotomy as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related science (Certification is not required).
- Associate degree in an approved Medical Laboratory Technician Program or a Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) certification from an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration, depending on when coursework was completed.
- Associate degree requires certification (NCA, AMT, ASCP, HEW, and CLA) within 12 months of employment.
- Knowledge of various laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Working knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures.
- Ability to maintain quality control and other records.
- Working knowledge of computers.
- Knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols.
