Medical Laboratory Technician
Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician/ Medical Technologist/ Histology Student is responsible for prompt and accurate performance of routine, complex and specialized clinical laboratory procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor. The Medical Laboratory Technician Student demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to patients including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
What you will do in this role
- Performs assigned diagnostic test procedures accurately in accordance with the written policies and procedures.
- Adheres to quality control protocols.
- Performs and documents proscribed maintenance procedures as instructed.
- Recognizes errors and reports them to a technologist.
- Reports work accurately, legibly and in accordance with the criteria for abnormal and critical values.
- Works efficiently and responds to stats and other priority tests to provide optimum patient care.
- Interacts professionally with Laboratory personnel and with other Hospital departments.
- Affords assistance with evaluation of equipment and procedures.
- May be assigned to other tasks and/or required to vary schedule to meet the needs of the laboratory and the patients.
- Complies with universal precautions and adheres to safety standards and practices.
- Uses the Laboratory Computer System and is assigned to the security level appropriate to the job.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology/Clinical Laboratory Technology (MLT/CLT) from an accredited institution. Or be qualified under CLIA guidelines for MLT/CLT.
- MLT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of Blood Bank clinical experience.
- Must meet competency expectations to independently cover Blood Bank.
- Must have a documented Blood Bank clinical rotation.
