About the role
As our Medical Lab Technologist, you will perform vital clinical laboratory procedures to detect, identify, measure, and report data crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment. Every day, you will expertly conduct waived and moderate procedures using technical skills, instrumentation, and information systems. You will be expected to provide essential clinical laboratory support while ensuring the quality and accuracy of all tests under leadership direction.
Responsibilities
- Perform lab test procedures on patient specimens, adhering to the Section's Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting
- Provide excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of appropriate caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within established turnaround-time limits
- Ensure major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures, including contacting the instrument vendor for assistance or repair
- Perform required calibration and quality control procedures and maintain records to ensure tests are being performed within established parameters
- Perform proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory clinical leaders
- Assist in the evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for the validation of new procedures and equipment to provide the physician with the most current laboratory technology
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate's Degree in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA, OR High School or GED and completed an official military medical laboratory course and held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician)
- Must be appropriately trained in clinical laboratory science as evaluated by the Director of the Clinical Laboratory
Preferred certifications:
- Medical Laboratory Technician AMT (MLT-AMT)
- Medical Laboratory Technician ASCP (MLT)
- Medical Lab Tech AAB (MLTECH)
Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory principles across various disciplines (microbiology, hematology, chemistry, etc.)
- Understanding of sample processing and result interpretation
- Prioritization of chemical and biological safety
- Ability to operate and maintain lab equipment
