Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Lab Technician, 40 Hours, 1st Shift, Lab Department
Day Kimball Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Lab Technician (MLT) for a full-time, 1st shift position in the Lab Department in Putnam, CT.

About the Role
As an MLS or MT, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for providing testing on patient samples and delivering quality results to physicians using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. You will ensure complete patient safety and anonymity through a thorough understanding of laboratory techniques.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and operates Clinical Lab equipment according to manufacturer and laboratory policy.
- Interprets results and provides appropriate feedback when results are abnormal or per special request.
- Accurately identifies patient samples and accessions them into the Laboratory Information System using correct account numbers and test alpha codes.
- Uses and disposes of hazardous and biohazardous materials as stated in laboratory policies and State and Federal Guidelines.
- Runs controls and understands the importance of controls to verify the quality of testing before releasing results.
- Provides phlebotomy services to patients during shift as needed.
Requirements
- ASCP Medical Technologist (MLS) or AMT Medical Technologist certification required.
- 5 years of experience in a hospital lab preferred.
Skills
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems, including order entry, inquiry, and specimen tracking.
- Excellent communication skills, including telephone, written correspondence, speaking, and critical value reporting.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations relating to the use of hazardous chemicals in the laboratory.
- Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to examine and evaluate data, present alternative actions, and give or receive assignments or directions to hospital staff.
- Physical ability to use body or appropriate tools to work, move, guide, or place objects or materials, with responsibility for meeting standards.
