Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Lab Technician - Full Time 40-hours a week

Full-time position, 80 hours per pay period. Shift varies as assigned.

About the role

Performs clinical laboratory testing aiding the physician in the crucial role of detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. Supports the organization’s mission, vision, and values by adhering to behavioral standards, complying with all applicable laws and regulations, and maintaining effective communication and collaboration with diverse colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Performs various laboratory procedures utilizing automated equipment, microscopes, manual procedures, and computer terminals
• Prepares reagents and specimens for processing
• Performs all clinical laboratory tests (including Microbiology and/or Blood Bank testing), ensuring quality control is within limits prior to testing or troubleshooting before reporting patient results
• Follows up and documents actions relating to abnormal panic results
• Prepares specimens for send-outs
• Consults with other lab staff and healthcare personnel on test results, specimen requirements, and testing protocols
• Receives and/or processes urine and other body fluid specimens
• Performs non-clerical functions (e.g., putting away supplies, taking temperatures, cleaning)
• Performs clerical functions as necessary and other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science (copy of academic degree or transcript required upon hire)
• Must meet current qualifications listed under “Clinical Laboratory Personnel Requirements” defined in the federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Act of 1988 (CLIA-88) and Oregon Department of Human Services Regulations, College of American Pathologists (CAP), and Joint Commission standards
• Working knowledge of LIS and HIS computer systems, specialized automated analyzers, centrifuges, pipettors, microscopes, and Pevco pneumatic system
• Demonstrates ability to use personal computers and applicable software programs
• Demonstrates ability to operate office equipment and telephones
• Ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally and with the public
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
• Maintains regular, consistent, and punctual attendance
• General knowledge of standard medical laboratory techniques, procedures, and safety precautions
• High level of organizational skills, including ability to multi-task and critically think
• Legible handwriting

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
• May be required to lift up to 40 pounds

Pay

Hourly rate ranges from $38.66 USD to $57.38 USD, representing the rate for an individual with significant experience in this job.
