Medical Laboratory Technician (Full-Time)

About the role

A Medical Laboratory Technician at The Iowa Clinic performs a variety of laboratory tasks to support patient care while maintaining specimen integrity, safety, and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Maintain consistent attendance and adhere to departmental work schedules.
• Collect blood, urine, and other specimens for laboratory testing following established procedures.
• Verify patient identification, review test requisitions for accuracy, and properly label specimens with required documentation.
• Prepare specimens and perform laboratory testing, analyses, and quality control procedures within training scope and established policies.
• Identify testing inconsistencies, take corrective action, and seek assistance when needed.
• Perform and document routine maintenance, instrument checks, troubleshooting, and corrective actions on laboratory equipment.
• Complete clerical and administrative tasks, including test requisitions, patient billing documentation, quality control reporting, and laboratory data entry.
• Maintain and enhance professional knowledge through continuing education and professional development.
• Follow all safety, universal precaution, infection control, and workplace cleanliness standards.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited two-year medical laboratory technician program.
• ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized Medical Laboratory Technician certification.
• Previous Medical Laboratory Technician experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.
