Think you’ve got what it takes to join our TIC team? Keep reading… A day in the life… Wondering what a day in the life of a Medical Laboratory Technician at The Iowa Clinic might look like? Maintain consistent attendance and adhere to departmental work schedules. Collect blood, urine, and other specimens for laboratory testing while following established procedures and ensuring specimen integrity. Verify patient identification, review test requisitions for accuracy and completeness, and properly label all collected specimens with required documentation. Prepare specimens and perform laboratory testing, analyses, and quality control procedures within the scope of training and established policies. Identify testing inconsistencies, take appropriate corrective action, and seek assistance when needed to resolve issues. Perform and document routine maintenance, instrument checks, troubleshooting activities, and corrective actions on laboratory equipment. Complete clerical and administrative responsibilities, including test requisitions, patient billing documentation, quality control reporting, and laboratory data entry. Maintain and enhance professional knowledge through continuing education and professional development activities. Follow all safety, universal precaution, infection control, and workplace cleanliness standards. Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism and discretion in all patient interactions.
