Medical Laboratory Scientist/Laboratory Tech

About the role

A Medical Laboratory Scientist or Laboratory Tech performs and reports laboratory testing to support medical diagnoses and treatments. This role supports the hospital's mission, vision, and values while ensuring proper specimen handling and maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Supports and promotes the hospital's mission, vision, and values.
• Ensures appropriate and properly identified specimens are collected and accepted for each test.
• Performs ordered tests using microscopes, chemicals, computers, and precision instruments.
• Reports accurate results in a timely manner and initiates appropriate actions when critical values are obtained.
• Prepares required reagents, solutions, and stains following established formulas and techniques.
• Conducts evaluations and calibrations of procedures when required.
• Performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment.
• Assists with daily paperwork and result distribution.
• Assists in Nursing Home and Doctor office pickups.
• Maintains confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information.
• Works in an orderly condition of assigned work area.
• Keeps informed about general hospital and unit-specific policies and procedures.
• Completes assigned daily duties.
• Accepts reassignment to other units if necessary.
• Works steadily and always keeps busy.
• Anticipates problems and suggests solutions.
