Responsibilities

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of patient specimens according to established procedures.
  • Perform specimen collection and other specimen handling duties as needed.
  • Operate complex biomedical electronic instrumentation including calibration, maintenance, quality assurance, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform and analyze quality control procedures including daily testing, recording, problem resolution, and compiling reports to assure accuracy of all results.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of test results before entering into the information system.
  • Maintain a proper inventory of supplies to provide continuous service, minimizing downtime.
  • Evaluate test results for accuracy, reportability, and clinical significance and report accordingly.
  • Maintain current knowledge of specialty by attending seminars, in-services, and reading journals.
  • Evaluate new methodologies and instrumentation under the guidance of the Section Chief and report findings and recommendations.
  • Assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Department Head.
  • Orient and train new employees and students.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a specific Science.
  • A minimum of six months of job-related experience or equivalent.
  • ASCP or NCA certification is required.
