Description
Shift: Monday - Friday 2pm-10:30pm, weekends and holidays as needed
Hours: 40 hours a week
Department: Immunochemistry
Minimum rate of pay: $30.13 per hour +
Location: Warde Lab - Ann Arbor.
Responsibilities
- Receipt of samples including determination of acceptability and follow up for nonacceptable samples.
- Instrument and manual testing involving interpretation skills of result information. Includes LCMS and EIA technologies.
- Manual pipetting skills required.
- Some testing requires the collaboration of several tests/techs/shifts for a final product.
- All aspects of assay testing including calibration, qc, maintenance, problem resolution.
- Stocking of areas, inventory management, and reagent acceptability.
- Communication with other departments regarding samples and testing.
- Several tests are on shared instrumentation with other departments and shifts.
- Communication with teammates regarding daily work and workflow planning.
Skills
- Must be capable of independent work as well as team work.
- Must be able to coordinate communication and tasks between colleagues and shifts in the department, shared departments, and for the laboratory.
- Must be flexible in ability to organize and coordinate multiple tasks in the shift and adjust work for daily changes in volume and workflow.
- Must be able to troubleshoot and communicate sample, assay, and instrument issues and participate in resolution.
- Must be able to complete testing and related tasks in a timely manner.
- Prefer experience in manual pipetting and testing.
- Prefer experience with LCMS techniques and interpretation.
- Prefer experience in interpretation of manual testing including LCMS techniques.
Required Qualifications
- Educational requirement: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, or university in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science. May consider a bachelor’s degree in science with a combination of relevant work experience in a comparable laboratory setting. Proof of educational transcripts must be submitted at time of application.
- Relevant work experience in a medical laboratory is required if MLS/MT degree is not obtained. Prefer clinical experience.
- Immunoassay instrumentation, manual pipetting and testing, and mass spectrometry experience preferred but not required.
- Certification/Licensure: Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – ASCP, or NCLS certification preferred.
