About the role
LifeSouth Community Blood Centers needs to add Medical Laboratory Scientist to our Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) in Gainesville, FL. A standard work week consists of four (4) 10-hour shifts or five (5) 8-hour shifts. Varying shifts are available, including rotating or set schedules, and rotating holidays. Available shifts include day shift, evening shift, and night shift. Shift times may be negotiable.
Responsibilities
- Resolve complex immunohematology and compatibility problems to provide the safest donor blood for the patients in our community.
- Focus on providing the best possible customer service.
- Follow established policies and procedures.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify a supervisor, manager, or director.
- Document all corrective action taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
- Exercise professional judgment in evaluation, specimen integrity, results accuracy, and inter-result validity, and take corrective action as necessary.
Requirements
- National certification as MT/CLS/MLS with ASCP, AAB or AMT, including immunohematology.
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical, or Biological Science.
- Familiarity with blood banking.
- Clinical laboratory training program or three years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience with a minimum of six months in the transfusion service or Immunohematology Reference Lab.
- SBB(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) preferred.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical, or Biological Science.
- Experience in a relevant field, including a minimum of three years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience with a minimum of six months in the transfusion service or Immunohematology Reference Lab.
- Must have a National certification as MT/CLS/MLS with ASCP, AAB or AMT, including immunohematology.
- Preferred qualifications include SBB(ASCP) or BB(ASCP).
