Medical Laboratory Scientist II, PRN, Microbiology, Baptist Downtown

About the role

Baptist Medical Center is currently seeking a Microbiology Medical Lab Scientist II to join their Infectious Diagnostics department at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. This is a part-time (PRN) opportunity that works primarily during day shifts with occasional as-needed shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional laboratory work following established clinic procedures
• Run all laboratory instruments including automated blood culture instruments
• Process specimens and operate an automated specimen processor
• Perform gram stains, stat molecular, susceptibility, and quality control testing
• Conduct mycobacteria and fungus testing
• Maintain expertise and perform technical, specimen collection/processing, LIS, general department, and clerical functions in one or more laboratory sections
• Keep records of performance as defined in the laboratory's policy and procedure manuals
• Instruct new employees and students

Requirements

• At least 2 - 4 years of experience in Microbiology and Molecular Pathology
• Associate's Degree in a related field required
• Preferred Bachelor's Degree in a related field
• Certified Medical Technologist (MT) or Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) preferred
• Licensed Medical Technologist or Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technician required

Qualifications

• Extensive microbiology experience
• Must be comfortable working within a large team
• 4-6 weeks training period required before operating independently
