About the role

Department: Core Lab
Schedule: On Call, night shift (10:30 pm to 7 am)
Pay range: $32.00 - $50.73 / hour; eligible for shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures in the department.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed by management.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
  • May assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting (high complexity testing).
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most current year in present department.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 36 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally, and more than 50 pounds rarely.
  • Standing and working at the bench for long periods of time; frequent walking and standing.
  • Manual dexterity to use a wide variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments and apparatuses.
  • Comprehensive theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty.
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Associates Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (preferred); Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry (preferred).
  • ASCP Certification (preferred).
  • MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist.

  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented, able to work independently, establish work priorities, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Interpersonal skills to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
  • Communication skills to handle client information confidentially.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
