About the role

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II position at St. Joseph Health involves performing and reporting a variety of laboratory tests to ensure accurate and timely results. This role requires executing complex procedures, analyzing specimens, operating and maintaining instruments, interpreting results, and conducting quality control.

Responsibilities

  • Executes a wide range of analytical procedures across various lab disciplines (hematology, chemistry, microbiology, etc.)
  • Analyzes patient specimens, operates/maintains instruments, interprets results, and completes testing within established turn-around-time limits
  • Provides excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of patterns of bias, rapid notification of critical values, and adherence to regulatory standards
  • Affords support to other staff members by assisting with work duties to ensure smooth workflow in the department
  • Maintains major automated equipment by performing required maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting procedures; contacts instrument vendors for assistance or repair
  • Performs proficiency testing as assigned and reviews results with laboratory clinical leaders
  • Assists in test or equipment validations, trains new employees and students, and assists with inventory management

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA
  • 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory
  • Preferred: International Medical Laboratory Scientist, Blood Banking, Chemistry - ASCP, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Technologist in Molecular Biology, Medical Laboratory Scientist - Med Technologist, Medical Technologist AAB, Technologist in Microbiology, Medical Technologist AMT, Specialist in Hematology, Specialist in Microbiobiology, Med Technologist - ASCP, Histotechnologist

Pay

The posted compensation range for this position is $31.53 - $46.90 per hour, reflecting the lowest and highest pay CommonSpirit Health believes it might offer for this role, based on current circumstances. Actual pay may vary based on factors such as location, qualifications, and experience.

Schedule

This position is full-time with a weekly schedule of 7 on/7 off, rotating shifts from 06:00 am to 5:30 pm.
