About the role

Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring the exercise of independent judgement and responsibility in specialties qualified by education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures in the department.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports to physicians.
  • May assist in answering client questions and participating in regulatory agency inspections.

Requirements

  • One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting, or minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most recent year in the present department.
  • BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. 1433 published in March 14, 1990.
  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills, detail-oriented, able to work independently, establish work priorities, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Communication skills necessary to handle telephone inquiries from clients and deal with client information confidentially.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.

Qualifications

  • AS/LT in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry (preferred).
  • ASLRP certification (preferred).
  • MLT, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist.
